11/1/2010 - Edelweiss Incorporates Goodreads "Shelf Counts" in Title Buzz Tracking

Ann Arbor, Michigan - November 1st, 2010 -

Above the Treeline is pleased to announce the addition of the Goodreads shelf count to the buzz tracking tools within Edelweiss, its market-leading online publisher catalog service.  In addition to the newly added Goodreads data, Edelweiss provides Twitter and blog tracking so that book professionals using Edelweiss can easily see which titles have online activity and can quickly view the relevant information.  Similar to the other buzz tracking tools in Edelweiss, the Goodreads indicator will contain a link to the title page on the Goodreads site so that users can see full Goodreads information for a selected title.

Goodreads is an online community of more than 4.1 million book lovers and casual readers who are able to assign titles to personal shelves, such as "to-read", "currently-reading", "read" and other custom shelves.  By integrating this aggregated information into Edelweiss, book professionals such as booksellers, sales reps, publicists, librarians, and media will be able to see which titles have the most energy and excitement from the Goodreads community, as expressed through the overall shelf count.

"Goodreads is the world's largest social network for readers and we're really excited to be providing Edelweiss users with this information to help them to gauge which new titles are generating the most excitement from readers," said Treeline CEO John Rubin. "As with our Twitter and blog tracking, we think this will become another key piece of information within Edelweiss to support marketing efforts and buying decisions."

9/8/2010 - Above the Treeline Partners with Regional Bookseller Associations to Provide Online Catalogs for Fall Trade Shows

Ann Arbor, MI - September 8th, 2010 - Eight of the nine U.S. regional bookseller associations have partnered with Above the Treeline, provider of the book industry's digital catalog Edelweiss, to provide online companion catalogs for their upcoming fall 2010 trade shows taking place in September and October.  These online product catalogs will provide attendees, interested booksellers, bloggers, and other book industry professionals with an online resource to browse, share, tag, and order titles being featured at this year's shows.

The online catalogs will be named Books@GLIBA, Books@MBA, Books@MPIBA, Books@NAIBA, Books@NEIBA, Books@PNBA, Books@SCIBA, and Books@SIBA in keeping with the successful Books@BEA program inaugurated at this year's Book Expo America show that attracted nearly 5,000 visitors.  Programs and events such as author signings and rep picks will be highlighted within the catalogs.

Exhibitors and authors attending these regional bookseller shows can include their featured titles in by loading their titles into Edelweiss.   Edelweiss clients can simply choose which of their titles they would like to include in the catalogs - no additional charges apply.  Others may join Edelweiss and load their titles using the new credit card-based small publisher pricing option: $20 per month for one title, $10 per month for each additional title.  A single month will cover participation in all of the shows the publisher is attending.

Each of the eight catalogs will have a dedicated domain name and section within Edelweiss.  Catalogs will be activated a week before each show and remain active for at least a month following the show.  The domain names are listed below.

For more information about the regional bookseller associations fall trade show companion catalogs, including how to participate, please email tradeshows@abovethetreeline.com.

8/23/2010 - Above the Treeline Introduces Serendipity for Small Publishers to Join Edelweiss

Ann Arbor, MI – August 23rd, 2010 – Above the Treeline announced today a new option for small publishers to join Edelweiss, the market-leading book industry digital product catalog service.   Called Serendipity, this new service is intended for publishers who do not want or need a stand-alone catalog within Edelweiss, but who want to use the features of Edelweiss to promote their titles to book industry professionals.

“We know that there are many smaller publishers in the industry where a stand-alone seasonal catalog within Edelweiss does not necessarily make sense.  Now we have an option for these publishers to join and use Edelweiss, and to add their titles to the compilation catalog we’re calling Serendipity,” said Above the Treeline CEO John Rubin, “We’re really looking forward to serving these smaller publishers and growing a strong and diverse title base within Edelweiss.”

Serendipity clients will be able to create a branded publisher profile and add rich, complete title information to Edelweiss via the online entry wizard.  Once titles are in Edelweiss, clients can use features such as html formatted emails, hyperlinks, PDF creation, and sharing via Facebook and Twitter to promote and share their title information with others.  In addition, titles added to Edelweiss via Serendipity will be accessible by Edelweiss’ user base of 2,000 book industry professionals via keyword search, geosearch, “buzz” search, and the “browse titles” feature.  Via the geosearch feature, a title-specific alert will automatically be included in the weekly Edelweiss email update to over 4,000 book industry professionals based on their location and the author’s residence, place of birth, or other biographical connections.

Above the Treeline is also introducing an affiliate program that will allow third parties to refer new Serendipity clients and receive back a portion of the first month’s billing.

“We’ll be talking with booksellers, bloggers, and others about this new partnership program,” said Mark Evans, Treeline’s Director of Marketing, “We’ve already seen significant interest in our conversations so far.  Some booksellers see this as a way to organize and manage the many individual solicitations they receive while receiving some revenue at the same time.”

Serendipity will also connect publishers and authors to industry catalogs.  Edelweiss will be powering digital companion catalogs for the upcoming regional trade associations fall shows.  Exhibitors at the shows can use Serendipity or Edelweiss to include titles in these online companion catalogs and add show-specific notes to each title as needed.

Pricing for Serendipity will be $20 per month for the first title and $10 per month for each additional title and payment will be made by Serendipity clients via a monthly credit card subscription.
