See below for more information about our new Reviews feature.

Cheers,

Joe

New Feature: Reviews

Readers and Retailers:
You can now add a review to any title you find in Edelweiss. You'll notice a "Your Review" field just above the "Your Note" field.  You might also see that a peer has given that title some love:

Simply click on "Your Review" and you'll get an easy form to fill out, with space to write or paste your review (as long or as short as you want). You can save it as a Draft or go ahead and Submit it once you're finished. These reviews, once submitted, will be sent along to the publisher.  The publisher may then choose to "Feature" your review, which will make it visible to other Edelweiss Users, or pass it along to IndieBound, etc.

To see who loved this title, just click on the "Much Love" link.

To help you keep track of your Reviews, you also now have a Reviews Tab.

Here's what a Reviews Tab with a few reviews will look like:

Note: You'll only see your own reviews in your Reviews Tab.
Click here for more information about this new feature.

Publisher Users:

You won't have the ability to add reviews, but you will have the ability to see either all reviews or just those reviews submitted by your accounts.

Also, selected publisher users can feature reviews and send messages to a reviewer. See your company's Edelweiss Administrator for more information.

As usual, please feel free to contact us at support@abovethetreeline.com with any questions.

Booksellers: New to Edelweiss?

If you've recently received a marked up catalog email from one of your sales reps and aren't too sure what to do with it now, we have a helpful "Getting Started" document here for you.
Reps, you might consider sending this document along to your newer Edelweiss users.  Also, this FAQ has links to other materials you might find useful for your accounts who are new to Edelweiss.

Winter Institute
We'll be at Winter Institute 7 this week with a (very) few time slots still open for the Consultation Station. We'll also be hanging about to answer your questions the rest of the time.
As I'm writing this, we have single half hour slots open at: 10:30, 11, 11:30,12, 12:30, 1, 5 and 5:30.
Email ruth@abovethetreeline.com if you'd like to reserve one of these times.

Cheers,

Joe

Managing Your Orders

Keeping your Edelweiss orders organized is one of the better ways to make the whole process clean, smooth and easy. Making use of the Work List, naming your orders in such a way that you can tell at a glance what they are, and marking orders as "Completed" once you're finished with them will generally all make things easier for you in the long run.
blossom
Once you're finished with an order (meaning you've gone over it with your rep, they've placed the order, you've gone through the import process, etc.) marking it "Completed" will remove it from your "Active Orders" list so you don't accidentally use it later, as well as generally just cleaning up the Orders Tab and making sure that only new and relevant orders are visible.
You can find more details about this here

It's worth mentioning that your reps will still be able to see your order if you mark it "Completed," so you're not going to mess them up at all.

REPS: You can mark orders "Completed" on your end as well, without fear of altering what your accounts see on their end. So, once you've submitted the order, you can clean up your own Orders Tab by marking stores' orders as "Completed."

As usual, please feel free to contact us at support@abovethetreeline.com with any questions.

Order Notification

Communication between a rep and a buyer is extremely important. With our Order Notification tool, buyers can notify their reps that an order is complete or is ready for review.

From within the Orders Tab, you can click the "Send Notification" button next to an order, select a type of notification - such as "Order Completed," and then write a message for your rep or publisher contact. They'll get an email with a link back to your order in Edelweiss, and you'll both be able to see your message history within your own respective Orders Tabs.

Not a Buyer: How I Learned to Love Edelweiss

Jenn Northington, the incredible Events Manager for the incredible WORD of Brooklyn, graci0usly offered to write something for us from a non-buyer's perspective:

When this whole Edelweiss thing first happened, I assumed that as an event manager I wouldn't have much to do with it. If you think the same, consider this your wake-up call -- because believe it or not, I use it almost daily. I was going to make a list of the things I loved about it, but then I realized that basically that list would just read "Tagging. Tagging! TAGGING!!", so instead you're getting a list of the amazing possibilities of the tagging function.

 blossom

1 - Propose an event? If your buyer is anything like my buyer, often potential events come up in rep meetings. And if your schedule is anything like my schedule, often you can't be at those meetings. Instead, Christine tags titles with "event?" and then once a week I go through, figure out which ones we should propose on, and email reps accordingly. It's a huge time-saver, and also means I don't have random torn-out pages of catalogs overflowing my in-tray.

2 - Did anyone read and like this? It can be hard to keep up with who has read what, and what they thought of it. When we remember, we'll go in and tag things "staff pick", so that it's easy to see what we're loving. This helps with buying appointments, ordering, and event proposing, not to mention the vicarious joys of peeking at your coworkers' TBR pile. (Joe's note: You can also write up specific comments in the "Your Notes" field. Your colleagues will be able to see these notes. More details here.)

3 - Who's got a book coming out around then? Because you can slice and dice titles by pub date, it's significantly easier to figure out who would be a good candidate for date-specific events like book festivals, open houses -- really any point at which you need a bunch of authors, from different publishers, with new titles to be together in the same place at the same time. And then you go in and tag them all ("Brooklyn Book Festival?") and you can pull the list to email to, for example, your coworkers, your reps, your festival board,  you name it. (More on emailing titles here.)

Thanks Jenn!
