Updates – Thursday, July 2, 2009

INTRODUCTION

This is the first edition of weekly updates that we will send out to notify you of new features, new catalogs, or other news regarding Edelweiss.  Initially, we’re sending this out to all registered users, but please feel free to reply and let us know if you’d rather not receive it, or if you have any suggestions to improve it.  If you did not register but are receiving this email, you were probably added by one of your reps as a recipient of a catalog mailing.  These updates will also be posted on our forum (see http://edelweiss.ning.com) so please join to learn more about Edelweiss and other Edelweiss users.

FEATURES

Where to start?  OK – enhancements have been coming fast and furious.  Since this is the first weekly update we’re sending out, I may repeat some features you’re already aware of but I want to be sure that you know about everything we’ve added.

Keyword search: This is an incredible addition to Edelweiss, allowing for full search across all catalogs (or within a particular publisher or catalog.)  For instance, to see all titles from authors who mention your home town in their author bio, just put the city into the keyword search box in the upper right corner.

Tag Clouds: A very intuitive way to navigate assigned tags within your organization.  The tags are listed in alphabetical order and the size of the typeface is proportional to the number of titles assigned to the tag.  Click on the tag to see the list of titles assigned to it.

Internet Buzz: Edelweiss searches for every title/author combination in the system within Twitter and within blogs.  It ranks them according to the number of mentions.  Filters such as pubdate, genre, and format can be applied.  Already a couple of success stories from this feature!

Export Rules: Want to remove leading articles from the title when exporting titles and orders?  Want to apply standard abbreviations to selected words?  The new Export Rules feature (find in the “admin” area of Edelweiss) allows you to create a set of custom rules and apply according to your priority.  The interface is easy to use and may save many of you tons of work.

Help!: Not the Beatles song, but the Edelweiss help site.  Ruth and Jen have been enhancing the help documentation on the site.  If you want more info about a feature or want to learn more about Edelweiss functionality generally be sure to check this on-line resource.  We’re always open to feedback on how to make it better.

Tip of the Week: You can hyperlink directly to a title within Edelweiss.  This can be handy in emailing, tweeting, or otherwise communicating electronically about a title within Edelweiss.  The recipient does not have to be a registered Edelweiss user to use the link to view the title detail page.  Just copy and paste the link (URL) from the detail page view of the title you want to send.
